photo.circle calls for applications for the PC Fellowship Program – a 9 month program designed to support our growing community of visual storytellers. The first iteration of the PC Fellowship Program will bring in a cohort of 6 visual practitioners to examine what bikas and samriddhi means for Nepali society. This is an invitation to delve deeper into questions, challenges and concerns around models of “development” that is promoted in Nepal at present. 

The PC Fellowship Program is designed to enable photographers and multimedia practitioners to continue to build on-going projects or start new ones that respond to the themes mentioned above. The program will be an opportunity for participants to strengthen their research skills, and build engaging visual narratives that create deeper civic engagements for themselves as well as their audiences.   

The program will have three components; fellows will be offered learning programs in the form of short workshops through the 9 month period, fellows will receive a grant to support production and travel and fellows will be offered on-going mentorship from a variety of experienced practitioners from the arts and media field, as well as the development sector.

Learning: The fellowship program will kick off with a ten-day deep-dive into the ongoing exhibition of Amar Kanwar titled The Sovereign Forest. This ten-day deep-dive will also include a Research 101 workshop, as well as meetings with Mentors. 

Grant: Each fellow will receive a production grant of rupees two lakhs (after taxes) that is meant to support travel and production. 

Ongoing Mentorship: All fellows will be assigned two dedicated Mentors for the full fellowship period whom they will work with closely. Fellows will get at least one meeting every month with their Mentors to share their ongoing work and receive feedback and other inputs.

Eligibility

• The PC Fellowship Program is open to Nepali practitioners only
• Photographers, filmmakers, multimedia practitioners, visual artists with at least 5 years of experience and a strong command of their craft are welcome to apply 
• Dalit, janajati, women and queer practitioners are highly encouraged to apply 
• Practitioners keen to deepen their inquiries, work independently, push new narratives are encouraged to apply      

Timeline and important dates 

• Application deadline: 10 December 2023
• Selection announcement: 15 Dec 2023
• Fellowship begins with ten-day deep dive into The Sovereign Forest: 5 – 15 January 2024 (11am – 4pm)
• Monthly meetings with Mentors 
• Editing Workshop: September
• Final Submissions: October

Application Requirement:

Interested candidates should send in the following to learning@photocircle.com.np by 10 December 2023. Please write “PC Fellowship Application” in the subject of your email.

• An updated CV
• A portrait (a photo of you for our social media/communication purposes)
• A short bio (max. 150 words) 
• A portfolio (one previously completed visual story, an edit of upto 20 images, on a compressed/zip folder, max folder size 20 MB)
• Project proposal. (200 – 500 words text describing the project idea that you want to work on during this fellowship. The proposal may address the following questions/prompts – What is the project about? Why do you care to do this work? How do you plan to do it? How will this 9 month program be beneficial for your work?)
• A tentative budget and Timeline – a tentative budget for the expenses that may occur in order to finish your project, that may include your travel expenses, food, accommodation, and other expenses.

आवेदनका लागि आह्वान

फोटो सर्कल पीसी फेलोसिप कार्यक्रमको आवेदनका लागि आह्वान गर्दछ। यस ९ महिने कार्यक्रम नेपाली दृश्य कथावाचकहरूको बढ्दो समुदायलाई प्रोत्साहित गर्न तयार गरिएको हो। यस पीसी फेलोसिप कार्यक्रमको पहिलो संस्करणले नेपाली समाजको लागि विकास र समृद्धि भनेको के हो भनी छानबिन गर्न ६ जना दृश्य अभ्यासकर्ताहरूलाई एकसाथ ल्याउनेछ। यस कार्यक्रम वर्तमान नेपालमा प्रचार भइरहेको “विकास”को नमूनाहरूप्रतिका प्रश्न, चुनौती र चिन्ताहरूमा गहिरिएर चिन्तन गर्ने आमन्त्रणा हो।

यस पीसी फेलोसिप कार्यक्रमले फोटोग्राफर र मल्टिमिडिया अभ्यासकर्ताहरूलाई माथि उल्लेखित विषयवस्तुमा आधारित भएका उहाँहरूका जारी परियोजनाहरूलाई निरन्तरता दिइरहन वा नयाँ परियोजनाहरू बनाउन सहयोग गर्नेछ। यस कार्यक्रम सहभागीहरूको लागि आफ्नो अनुसन्धान दक्षता सुदृढ गर्ने, र आफ्नो साथसाथै आफ्ना दर्शकहरूको नागरिक संलग्नता अझ गहन बनाउने आकर्षक दृश्य कथाहरू निर्माण गर्ने अवसर हुनेछ।

यस कार्यक्रमका तीन अंश हुनेछन्; फेलोहरूलाई ९ महिनाको अवधिभर लघु कार्यशालाहरूको रूपमा शैक्षिक कार्यक्रमहरू प्रदान गरिनेछ, फेलोहरूले निर्माण र भ्रमणका लागि अनुदान प्राप्त गर्नुहुनेछ अनि उहाँहरूलाई कला, मिडिया तथा विकास क्षेत्रका विभिन्न अनुभवी अभ्यासकर्ताहरूसँग यस कार्यक्रमको अवधिभर निरन्तर रूपमा मेन्टरसिप प्रदान गरिनेछ।

सिकाइ: यस फेलोसिप कार्यक्रम अमर कन्वरको हाल जारी प्रदर्शनी ‘सोभरेन फरेस्ट’को १० दिने गहन विश्लेषणबाट आरम्भ हुनेछ। यस दस दिनको गहन विश्लेषणमा आधारभूत अन्वेषणको कार्यशालाका साथै मेन्टरहरूसँग भेटघाटको कार्यक्रम पनि समावेश हुनेछ।

अनुदान: हरेक फेलोले (कर पछि) दुई लाख रुपैयाँको निर्माण अनुदान प्राप्त गर्नुहुनेछ जसको प्रयोग भ्रमण र निर्माणका लागि गर्न सकिनेछ।

मेन्टरसिप कार्यक्रम: सबै फेलोहरूलाई सम्पूर्ण फेलोसिपको अवधिभरका लागि दुईजना व्यक्तिगत मेन्टरहरू प्रबन्ध गराइनेछ। उहाँहरूले आफ्नो मेन्टरहरूसँग नजिकबाट काम गर्नुहुनेछ। फेलोहरूले आफ्नो मेन्टरलाई आफ्नो जारी कामबारे बताउन अनि उहाँहरूको प्रतिक्रिया र अरू सल्लाह लिन हरेक महिना कम्तीमा एक पटक भेट्न पाउनुहुनेछ।

योग्यता

– यस पीसी फेलोसिप कार्यक्रम नेपाली अभ्यासकर्ताहरूका लागि मात्र उपलब्ध छ।

– कम्तीमा ५ वर्षको अनुभव भएका र आफ्नो सीपमा अब्बल फोटोग्राफर, फिल्म निर्माता, मल्टिमिडिया अभ्यासकर्ता तथा दृश्य कलाकारहरूलाई आवेदनका लागि अनुरोध गरिन्छ।

– दलित, जनजाति, महिला र क्वेर अभ्यासकर्ताहरूलाई आवेदनका लागि प्रोत्साहित गरिन्छ।

– आफ्नो अनुसन्धानलाई अझ गहन बनाउन, स्वतन्त्र रूपमा काम गर्न अनि नयाँ कथाहरू बाहिर ल्याउन चाहनुहुने अभ्यासकर्ताहरूलाई आवेदनका लागि प्रोत्साहित गरिन्छ।
