Born in Kathmandu, Subel Bhandari started out researching and reporting for various publications in Kathmandu, including Kantipur, Wave magazine, Y! magazine, etc. He also worked as a fixer/ translator for many visiting journalists, finding inspiration in the works of the photojournalists he worked with. Bhandari was inspired to pick up a camera for himself. Some of his favorite photographers are James Natchway, Annie Leibowitz and Jonas Bendikson. He enjoys music, movies and video games. Bhandari currently works as Nepal Correspondent for AFP.

Surveying camp life for soldiers of the People's Liberation Army in cantonment in Rolpa, Subel Bhandari visits the previous Maoist stronghold to contrast life outside cantonment and how it is not entirely free of Maoist realizations.
