EXHIBITIONS
Since January 2008 photo.circle has been curating and hosting physical exhibitions in addition to regular slide-show presentations. These exhibitions help photographers reach a wider audience and are on display for 4-8 weeks. They have so far resulted in good sales and resulting commissioned assignments. The exhibitions are held at The Bakery Café in Pulchowk.

The exhibited works have included not only photographs but other art forms as well such as painting, pen and ink and design. Each exhibition features a special presentation by the artist/s on the opening night.

If you are interested to exhibit your work; please contact us at events@photocircle.com.np.

* photo.circle does not charge commission on sale of artwork. A basic exhibition fee includes venue rental, an opening night with light refreshments and design and distribution of publicity and promotion.

World Refugee Day 2009 - "Real People, Real Needs"

In collaboration with UNHCR, photo.circle curated and organized a mobile exhibition titled ‘home,’ by photographer Kashish Das Shrestha that traveled to all seven Bhutanese refugee camps in Eastern Nepal in April 2009. A larger exhibition on refugee situations around the world by 9 photographers including Zalmai, Christian Als, NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati, Edwin Koo, Ashok Shakya and others was exhibited in June in Kathmandu to mark World Refugee Day 2009. Both these exhibitions were ground breaking for Nepal in terms of introductions to creative ways of curating and managing photographic work.

Traveling Chobi Mela Mela V - International Festival of Photography

Project Freedom was designed to deliberate on ideas of ‘freedom’ through photographic and cultural exchange. It was a collaborative project with Chobi Mela, an international festival of photography held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Kutumba, a Nepali folk ensemble and was funded by the Prince Claus Fund based in the Netherlands.

In November 2008, photo.circle awarded travel grants to 6 emerging Nepali photographers to visit Chobi Mela V in Dhaka Bangladesh. Works of these photographers were showcased as multimedia slideshows at the Goethe Institute, Dhaka and accompanied by a live performance by Kutumba. Chobi Mela provided the 6 photographers with opportunities to gain exposure to works of more than 60 international photographers from over 30 countries and network with an international community of fellow photographers, publishers, editors and other artists. The visit was a great chance to showcase work, find inspiration and push for personal growth.

Upon return from Chobi Mela, photo.circle hosted a selection of 12 exhibitions from Chobi Mela V in Dhaka as Traveling Chobi Mela in Kathmandu. During the week-long exhibition, 6 workshops were also organized, including a 4 day workshop by award winning photographer Munem Wasif (Agence VU) and a variety of multimedia presentations were screened.
